Sanzar is working on plans for an Asian Super Rugby competition that is looking to include the Sunwolves and a Fiji team.
This comes after Sunwolves were informed yesterday that they would be cut from Super Rugby from 2021 and the format will follow the Global Rapid Rugby style of Rugby.
If it succeeds, Fiji is understood to be a certainty for an expanded six-team Rugby Championship, while Japan's inclusion still has a question mark hanging over it.
The Sydney Morning Herald says it would be Sanzaar-endorsed with a Japanese team to be added to the founding Rapid Rugby clubs, the Western Force, Fiji, Samoa, Hong Kong and Singapore.
A Malaysian team and potentially a second Australian team could be added in to the Mix too.
Meanwhile the Sunwolves will face the Lions at 10.55pm this Saturday.
Tomorrow the Blues will take on the Highlanders at 6.35pm.
On Saturday, the Hurricanes will face the Stormers at 6.35pm while the Waratahs take on the Crusaders at 8.45pm.
On Sunday the Bulls will face the Chiefs at 1.05am, the Sharks will take on the Rebels at 3.15am and the Reds will meet the Brumbies at 5.05pm.
