Kusal Perera hit an unbeaten 153 as Sri Lanka chased 304 to claim a stunning one‑wicket win over South Africa on the fourth day in the first Test in Durban.
It was the highest last‑wicket stand in a successful fourth‑innings chase in first‑class cricket.
A Sri Lanka defeat appeared the most likely prospect for much of the day, which began with the tourists 88‑3 and left‑handed Perera on 12.
The victory was only Sri Lanka's second in 14 Tests in South Africa.
The second and final Test in Port Elizabeth starts on Friday.
