Spain have sacked head coach Julen Lopetegui two days before their opening World Cup match with Portugal after he was named the new Real Madrid boss.
Real Madrid announced on Tuesday that Lopetegui would succeed Zinedine Zidane on a three‑year deal.
The Spanish Football Federation says it had dismissed the 51‑year‑old because the negotiation occurred without any information to the Federation.
Spain sporting director Fernando Hierro will take charge for the World Cup.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup starts tomorrow with hosts Russia taking on Saudi Arabia at 3am.
Spain faces Portugal at 6am on Saturday.
