A rugby clinic program spearheaded by former Fijian rugby international Seremaia Bai is breaking barriers for a group of 5 to 14-year-olds in the country.
The rugby clinics is focused on getting children active during the school holidays but it is also encouraging open discussions about gender equality and even racism.
Bai runs the clinics through his “Rugby Academy Fiji” which was founded around the principle of making better people through rugby.
He says the rugby clinics started in the Term 1 holidays this year with about 25 kids and the numbers have grown ever since.
Children are taught the basic skills of the sport and are also split into different groups in the program where they get to participate with children from different backgrounds and genders.
Bai says most of the children that are part of the rugby clinics do not play rugby for their schools and the program has given them motivation.
The rugby clinics will continue this week and parents can get in contact with “Rugby Academy Fiji” if they are interested.
