Roosters tame Broncos to secure a spot in NRL semifnals

A freakish final 10 minutes has seen the Sydney Roosters defeat the Brisbane Broncos 24‑22 in a thrilling finish to the NRL’s first qualifying final of 2017.

The Broncos looked far from their usual best at Allianz, fumbling the ball on a number of occasions and making silly defensive errors.

Brisbane had the lead 18‑6 at half time and looked to be running away with a massive upset win, but Sydney still had an ace up its sleeve.

20‑year‑old Latrell Mitchell palmed his way through the defence in the 74th minute to level the score before Michael Gordon converted to give the Roosters the final score of 24‑22.

The Roosters will advance to the third week of the finals and are within one game of a grand‑final appearance, while the Broncos will play the winner of the match between the Panthers and the Sea Eagles elimination final.

Meanwhile the Storm will take on the Eels in the second qualifying final at 6.10 tonight.
