New Crusaders coach Scott Robertson has secured his first big‑name signing, with former Wallabies wing Digby Ioane to play for the Christchurch‑based team in the 2017‑18 Super Rugby seasons.
Ioane's arrival is hoped to help offset the loss of wings Nemani Nadolo and Johnny McNicholl, who have signed deals to join clubs in France and Wales.
The New Zealand‑born, Australian‑raised winger already has 86 Super Rugby caps to his name, having played for the Western Force in 2006 and 2007 and the Queensland Reds from 2008‑2013.
He played 35 tests for the Wallabies between 2007‑13 before joining French club Stade Francais.
The Crusaders were knocked out of the Super Rugby playoffs following their 42‑25 loss to the Lions in Johannesburg last Sunday morning.
