The remaining 17 athletes and officials of Team Fiji will depart for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil today and will be led by Deputy Chef de Mission Wayne O’Connor.
Team Fiji will travel on Air New Zealand from Nadi to Auckland to Buenos Aires and onward to Rio de Janeiro.
The Opening Ceremony is at 11am next Saturday with some competitions having already started pre-opening next Friday night and the Closing Ceremony scheduled for 22nd August.
Fielding the largest contingent in our nation’s Olympic history, Team Fiji will be participating in 10 of the 42 sport disciplines including Archery, Athletics, Boxing, Football, Judo, Rugby Sevens, Shooting, Swimming, Table Tennis and Weightlifting.
The 86 member team consists of 54 athletes and 32 officials including the Chef de Mission, Coaches, Section Managers and medical personnel.
The Rio 2016 Olympic Games will be held over 19 days of competition with 306 events and will yield 136 medals for women, 161 for men and nine mixed medals.
