Fiji’s sprinter Aaron Powell was disqualified after finishing first in the Men’s 100 metres final in the Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu yesterday.
Powell was disqualified after officials made the decision that he made a false start in the race.
He was informed about the decision moments after the race.
Samoa’s Kelvin Masoe won gold in the men’s 100 metres and clocked a time of 10.84 seconds.
Wesley Logorava of PNG won silver while Kupun Wisil of PNG also won the bronze medal.
Meanwhile, Makereta Naulu finished third to claim the bronze medal in the Women’s 100 metres final.
Naulu clocked a time of 12.19 sec.
She ran against Pacific Sprint Queen Toea Wisil who won gold.
Looking at the Pacific Mini Games Medal tally, New Caledonia is leading with 34 gold, 12 silver and 8 bronze, PNG is in second place with 22 gold, 18 silver and 10 bronze while Fiji is in third place with 16 gold, 14 silver and 18 bronze.
