Four high performing Rewa soccer players who are also Police officers are currently the talk of the town after they applied for their release from their Rewa-based clubs to join the Police soccer club in Suva.
Simione Tamanisau of Raymonds, Savenaca Nakalevu of United while Madhwan Goundar and Tevita Waranivalu of Nakasi Lions have all applied for their release to join the Police soccer club in Suva.
By joining the Police club, the four will automatically qualify to play for Suva in the local soccer competition.
The four have been key players for Rewa in recent years and in particular the Vodafone Fiji FACT and Inkk Mobile BOG wins last year.
We have asked the Fiji Police Force if there is a requirement for Police Officers who are high performing soccer players to switch clubs to ensure that they play for the Police soccer club in Suva.
In response, Police Spokesperson, Ana Naisoro has stated that the prerogative of which team or district an officer chooses to play for is entirely theirs.
She says it is not mandatory for all police officers to be playing for the Police team just as it is with rugby.
Naisoro adds that from the Force's perspective, this is also in line with their Policing Fiji through sports campaign and the fact that they have officers playing for different districts is an added plus because they can be ambassadors in their respective districts.
The player transfer window closes next Wednesday and it will be interesting to see if these four players will withdraw their application to stay with Rewa.
