The Fiji Rugby Union CEO Radrodro Tabualevu has today come out saying that Vodafone Fiji 7s players should not only play for bonuses but play to showcase their talent so they can get a good contract.
Tabualevu also stated in a press conference that there is no delay in making the bonus payments to the Fiji 7’s team players who won the Gold Coast 7s three weeks ago.
He said they are processing the bonus payments which will be given out soon.
The FRU is getting $8 million a year from the consortium of sponsors.
$5.2 million is in kind while $2.8 million is cash.
Tabualevu said the sponsorship in kind covers a wide variety of things.
Meanwhile, Tabualevu has also revealed that they will be issuing contracts to 11 Fiji 7s players soon.
He said they will not be able to match lucrative overseas offers and when asked, Tabualevu did state that FRU can provide up to $15,000 a year to a player.
Tabualevu said Osea Kolinisau and Pio Tuwai are the only contracted players.
He said Tuwai just signed the contract and has left to play for a club in Sri Lanka.
He said it is a breach of the contract and they have not released Tuwai to play overseas.
