There is still no indication from the Fiji Rugby Union on when the Vodafone Fiji 7s players that won the Gold Coast 7s will receive their bonus payments.

FRU’s Finance Manager Veronica Manoa said she cannot comment on the issue as all comments should come from the Chief Executive Officer.

Fijivillage posed the question to FRU’s Acting CEO Sale Sorovaki on when the players will receive their bonus payments yesterday.

Sorovaki said that all questions regarding the bonus payments should be forwarded to FRU’s Finance Manager.

According to the Fiji Rugby Union’s sponsorship deal, a bonus payment of $20,000 will be given to the Vodafone Fiji 7s team if they win a tournament.

Reliable sources have confirmed to Legend FM sports that each player received 1,666 dollars over the weekend.

Digicel Fiji Chief Executive Officer, Darren McLean confirmed in a statement last week that he made the payment of $20,000 to a players’ representative and they will not reveal the identity of the person as it would compromise that person’s position.

McLean said that this has nothing to do with the FRU as they are making a no strings attached payment directly to the players.

The Vodafone Fiji 7s team will take on France in their first pool match at 6.44pm next Friday and will later meet Brazil at 9.44pm.

Their last pool match is against Argentina at 1.52am Saturday.

The cup quarter finals start at 8pm Saturday, the cup semifinals are at 1.55am Sunday while the cup final kicks off at 3.42am.
