World Rugby has decided that there will be no disciplinary action against the All Black Sevens team despite having eight players on the field against Australia in the final pool match of the Sydney Sevens.
According to World Rugby, the law provides for a penalty kick to be awarded when a team fields more than the maximum number of players.
It says the referee was not aware of the additional New Zealand player on the field before the end of the match.
World Rugby says the laying of a misconduct charge is not appropriate as New Zealand did not meet the necessary criteria to be punished.
New Zealand went on to win the Sydney Sevens.
