“We are planning around hitting teams hard and hitting them quickly.”
Those were the words of Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s coach Gareth Baber as he responded to the new Rugby World 7s knock-out format that will see the national side only play one game of elimination before the quarterfinal.
Baber says it is a strange format for all of them but they have been working on a program to suit the new format.
Baber adds that this new format will also have an effect on how he picks his final 12 who can carry out the job for Fiji.
The squad will remain at the Utah training base until the end of the week, before flying into San Francisco on Sunday.
Fiji will play their first game against the winner between Japan and Uruguay at 3.57pm next Saturday.
Barring any upsets, they will either meet Argentina or Canada in the Cup quarterfinals at 10.54am next Sunday, they will either meet Australia or New Zealand in the cup semifinals at 8.02am Monday the 23rd of this month and will either meet South Africa, England or USA in the final at 12.49pm Monday the 23rd of this month.
