Nakarawa, Cikamatana named Fiji Sportsman and Sportswoman of 2017

Fiji Airways Flying Fijians lock, Leone Nakarawa and Weightlifting Fiji sensation, Eileen Cikamatana have been awarded the sportsman and sportswoman of the year at 2017 Fiji Sports Award last night.

Flying Fijians Coach, John McKee was awarded the Coach of the Year while the Fiji Rugby Union was recognised as the Organisation of the year.

Meanwhile, the Team of the Year award was won by the Fiji Hockey Women’s Team.

Fiji Table Tennis Association’s Grace Yee and Vicky Wu bagged the Young Female and Male athlete of the year awards respectively.

Fiji Born, Wallabies and Brumbies Wing Henry Speight who was the guest speaker at the Fiji Sports Awards urged all the athletes to continue to pursue for excellence adding that every Fijian abroad regardless of which sport would support their fellow countrymen.

He adds that present athletes play a huge role in the lives of young budding children in Fiji looking to pursue a sport they are passionate about.   

While speaking at the 2017 Fiji Sports Awards, President, Jioji Konrote urged and encouraged all the athletes and sporting bodies present to have a revamped and renewed sense of achievement and continue the momentum in pushing beyond their boundaries.

The other awards include, Technical Official of the year that was won by Earnest Movick of Fiji Hockey, Volunteer of the year was awarded to Kinisimere Ravai of Fiji Football, Special Olympic’s Robin Dayal was awarded Administrator of the year while Jonacani Lalakobau of the Fiji Times was awarded the Photograph of the year Award.
