New Zealand 7s legend Eric Rush does not believe New Zealand rugby should chase former Fiji 7s coach Ben Ryan, who is now a free agent.
Ryan was involved with the England sevens team between 2007 to 2013, but never came close to matching Tietjens successes something Rush believes should not be overlooked.
Rush and Ryan have been mentioned as potential successors to Tietjens, who ended his 22 years in charge by stepping down on Tuesday.
Rush adds he would not want Ryan to coach NZ as he thinks they have got enough good coaches in the country adding Ryan did a great job with Fiji.
Rush says having the players is 80 per cent of the job for the coach, the last 20 per cent is pretty crucial, and he did that really well with Fiji and Rush takes his hat off to Ryan.
Rush adds that Ben Ryan really nailed it for Fiji, but everyone is just talking about the Fiji part, they have to remember he was the English coach for a while too.
Rush is uncertain whether he will have a crack at the role, because of his commitments with his supermarket in Kaikohe adding he would love to do it as the team has been a big part of his life but he is in a different chapter in his life and is doing well and does not want to upset that part.
