After winning the Japan Sevens back in 2001, New Zealand are realistic about their chances and hope to come out victorious this weekend.
Coach, Gordon Tietjens said they have analyzed their upsetting result in Hong Kong and will provide the best display of New Zealand rugby in Japan this Saturday.
Tietjens said they cannot win every tournament but finishing on top in Japan will be important for the race to Olympic qualification.
Captain, DJ Forbes said they are focused on doing well this weekend.
New Zealand lost 17-12 to Fiji in the Japan Sevens semi-final last year.
They will again face Australia in Pool B along Scotland and Portugal, the side they drew within the pool stages in Hong Kong.
Fiji will play Wales in its first pool match at 1pm Saturday.
We then take on Hong Kong at 4.18pm Saturday and the final pool match is against England at 8.30pm Saturday.
The Cup quarterfinals start at 2.20pm Sunday, the Cup semis kick off at 6.22pm Sunday while the Japan 7s Cup final starts at 9pm Sunday.
