New Zealand women's sevens star Michaela Blyde was consoled by her mother after her side's 45‑0 win over Kenya at the Commonwealth Games having learned that her partner had suffered a season-ending injury.
Blyde's partner Chiefs prop Aidan Ross was stretchered off during the Chiefs' Super Rugby match against the Hurricanes in Wellington last night after his Chiefs teammate Angus Ta'avao landed awkwardly on his leg in the first half.
The Chiefs went on to lose to the Hurricanes 25‑13.
The Hurricanes now top the New Zealand Super Rugby conference.
The 2015 champion Hurricanes had too much class, allowing them to leapfrog the Lions and Crusaders, who had byes this week. They can't be overtaken during the remainder of round nine.
Today the Sunwolves meet the Blues at 3.05pm, the Rebels take on the Jaguares at 5.15pm, The Highlanders face the Brumbies at 7.35pm while the Reds will take on the Waratahs at 9.45 tonight.
