New Zealand Rugby has announced a loss of $NZD1.9 million for the 2018 financial year at its AGM meeting in Wellington.
Despite the losses, NZ Rugby is still 44% ahead of budget thanks to $NZD68 million in commercial sponsorships and licencing income.
NZ Rugby Chair, Brent Impey said last year set a benchmark for investment in rugby at $191 million which was fuelled by profits from the 2017 Lions Series, but admitted there are challenging times ahead for the sport.
NZ Rugby Chief Executive Steve Tew stressed it was important to ensure rugby was truly a game for all New Zealanders.
Meanwhile in the Super Rugby Competition, tomorrow, the Chiefs will take on the Lions at 7.35pm and the Sunwolves will meet the Hurricanes at 10pm.
