Crusaders assistant coach Ronan O'Gara has suggested the All Blacks shift Beauden Barrett to fullback to make room for the in‑form Richie Mo'unga in the No 10 jersey.
Following another stellar Super Rugby campaign, where he led the Crusaders to back‑to‑back titles, the drums have been beating for Mo'unga to replace Barrett at first‑five for the national side ‑ not that coach Steve Hansen is listening.
While impressed with Mo'unga's form, the All Blacks coach has made it clear that Barrett, the reigning two‑time World Rugby player of the year, remains his preferred choice.
But in a column for the Irish Examiner, O'Gara believes a solution to the debate could be to have them on the field at the same time.
O’Gara says that Mo’unga plays on instinct which is brilliant. He does not need a whole series of structured plays to excite him.
The All Blacks will take on the Wallabies in Sydney at 10.05pm next Saturday in the Bledisloe Cup and Rugby Championship opener.
