Flying Fijians flyhalf Josh Matavesi says the team always comes first despite misreports on his confusion and demotivation by Fiji’s treatment during the Rugby World Cup.
Speaking from the Fiji team‑base in Wales earlier today Matavesi said he wishes he personally could have played a bigger role but the team always comes first.
He was referring to his overall game time in the 2015 Rugby World Cup and Fiji’s Pool A match against Wales where he was fielded as a late replacement and where the Welsh team went on to beat Fiji 23‑13 last Thursday.
Matavesi says it’s not that he is demotivated or treated unfairly by the team.
He says he was referring to the need for the team to continue to play for pride and not be demotivated despite Fiji’s results.
Recent media reports have quoted Matavesi as being confused and accused the Fiji camp for treating him unfairly.
Fiji’s final match is against Uruguay at 7am Wednesday.
