Labasa Soccer Coach Anand Sami claims there were rugby field markings as well as soccer markings on the field at Ratu Cakobau Park last Sunday.

Sami claims this is why Labasa goalkeeper Akuila Mateisuva got confused and handled the ball outside the penalty box during their match against Rewa in the Vodafone Premier League.

Mateisuva was shown the red card following the incident.

When questioned, Fiji Football Association’s CEO Mohammed Yusuf says the allegations are baseless.

Yusuf says he was present at the ground during the game and the soccer markings are clear. He says the rugby markings have faded and should not be used as an excuse for the red card.

The ten men Labasa side had beaten Rewa 1-0.

Meanwhile, Labasa will face Nasinu at 3pm this Sunday at Ratu Cakobau Park.
