Pacquiao, who joined the reserves as sergeant on April 27th, 2006 was promoted several times over the next three years until he became Senor Master Sergeant, the highest rank for enlisted personnel, on May 4th, 2009.
Following his victory over Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez in the third of their four fights, Pacquiao was appointed a lieutenant colonel in November 2011.

He bought boxes of doughnuts and sold them individually to make a small profit and slept in cardboard boxes until joining a junior boxing program which provided accommodation.
