The first man in line to buy a second‑chance ticket to the Super Rugby final has his hands on one after enduring a 15‑hour overnight stay in a queue that wound for hundreds of metres around Te Papa in Wellington.
Danny Meadows said he started the queue for the Hurricanes vs Highlanders clash at 5pm yesterday and while it was cold said he got through the night thanks to some hot chocolate.
Hurricanes players Motu Matu’u, Mark Abbott and Callum Gibbins, with franchise CEO Avan Lee, visited the queue of about 850 in the night, delivering hot chocolate and pizza for people to enjoy as they endured temperatures of 7 degrees celsius in a bid to buy tickets for the Saturday night match at Wellington's Westpac Stadium.
The queue was for the extra 2000 tickets made available for the game after thousands of people missed out when Ticketek sold the original 29,000 tickets in 59 seconds on Monday.
The Hurricanes will take on the Highlanders in the Super Rugby final at 7.35pm this Saturday.
