A group of local businesses have launched a reward program for athletes representing Fiji at the Rio Olympics.
As part of the initiative, any athlete who wins a gold medal for Fiji in Rio will receive a reward of $2,500.
Fijian Holdings Limited CEO Nouzab Fareed says athletes that win a silver medal will receive $1,500 and $1,000 for a bronze medal.
Fareed says they are providing $12,000 as reward for a gold medal win in an individual event, $8,000 for silver and $5,000 for bronze.
The total cost of this initiative is about $100,000.
Fiji will be represented by 53 athletes in nine different disciplines in Rio.
This initiative is supported by Pacific Cement Limited, Fiji Television Limited, Basic Industries Ltd, Merchant Finance Ltd, RB Patel Group Ltd, South Sea Cruises Ltd and Life Cinema Ltd.
