Lebaivalu 7s team wins Vanuaso 7s tournament beating Police Blue 28-26

The Lebaivalu 7s team from Vanuaso in Gau has won the inaugural Vanuaso 7s tournament

The Lebaivalu 7s team from Vanuaso in Gau has won the inaugural Vanuaso 7s tournament after defeating Police Blue 28‑26 in the final at Ratu Cakobau Park this afternoon.

They win $10,000.

Police Blue defeated Police White 24‑12 while Lebaivalu beat Congo Waimanu 7s team 12‑7 to qualify for the final.

The first try of the match was scored by Meli Kurisaru of Police and but a response soon came from Lebaivalu through its captain Luke Lutunavanua.

Police Captain Livai Ikanikoda then scored the second try but Lebaivalu soon replied with a try to Leo Naikasau.

The two teams were tied 14‑14 at half time.

Naikasau opened the second half with another try for Lebaivalu but Keponi Paul of Police then leveled the scores again with another try.

Jemesa Mataiyavi then scored again in the sixth minute to give Lebaivalu a 28‑21 lead.

Suliano Vulivuli scored for Police a minute after the final hooter sounded but with the missed conversion, Lebaivalu took the win.

In other matches, Exile Brothers defeated Katudrau 14-7 in the Bowl Final while Zion Brothers defeated Niubuto 17‑14 in the Plate final.
