Brumbies coach Stephen Larkham has expressed his anger over the speculation about David Pocock’s playing future, but remains hopeful the Wallabies backrower will remain with the Canberra-based franchise.
The Daily Telegraph revealed on Tuesday night that Pocock, who is off contract at the end of the season, is considering taking a 12-month sabbatical in 2017 to study in England.
Pocock has not spoken about his playing future beyond this season but Brumbies chief executive Michael Jones said he had been in discussions with the 27-year-old and his manager and was confident a decision may be announced as early as next week.
The Australian Rugby Union is also heavily involved in the efforts to keep Pocock.
The Brumbies fear if Pocock, who starred for the Wallabies in their run to the World Cup final last year, was allowed a sabbatical next year he may not return to Canberra in 2018, with Queensland showing strong interest in signing the Brisbane schoolboy product.
The Brumbies will face the Hurricanes on the 26th of this month in the Super Rugby.
