Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee has stressed that there is a huge lack of human resources at FASANOC and in various national sporting bodies.
FASANOC’s President Joe Rodan Snr says there are 40 sporting bodies under FASANOC and a number of them do not have full-time staff.
He says to improve the standard of sport, it is necessary that full-time employees manage the day to day running of the sport and make strategic plans for the organisation.
While making submissions before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Accounts, Rodan says some sporting bodies like the Fiji Rugby Union has human resources but others do not.
Rodan says they have already asked for funding from the government to provide full-time employment in various sporting bodies.
Opposition MP Anare Vadei then questioned Rodan whether any measure of economic benefit through sports has been carried out for each sporting body.
Rodan stated that they need full time working people to do this.
Meanwhile, FASANOC’s Chief Executive Officer Lorraine Mar has revealed that they had received a grant of $4.6 million for Team Fiji for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
She says the government had provided $3.6 million which were 65% of the total grant that Team Fiji had received.
Mar says $1.6 million was allocated to the Fiji Rugby Sevens team.
