Labasa played smart defensive game to beat Lautoka 1‑0 in an entertaining and fast paced match in the Inkk Mobile BOG at Churchill Park last night.
This was a Group B clash and Labasa took the lead in the first half through a Ilisoni Logaivou goal after a lapse of concentration by Lautoka defenders.
Logaivou had another great opportunity to put Labasa up by 2‑0 late in the first half after Labasa was awarded a penalty as Edward Justin of Lautoka had handled the ball in his penalty box.
Logaivou's shot was saved by Beniamino Mateinaqara.
Lautoka applied tremendous pressure to get an equaliser but Labasa defenders and goalkeeper Shaneel Naidu played their hearts out and stopped Lautoka from scoring.
Labasa will play Tavua at 1pm today while Lautoka will face Ba at 5pm.
Labasa’s senior player Taniela Waqa says they will not take the game against Tavua lightly and are confident that with the right plan they can come out triumphant.
Labasa will have to beat Tavua with a good goal margin and will have to wait for a favorable result from the Ba and Lautoka game.
Ba who has six points just needs a draw against Lautoka to book a semi final spot while Lautoka will need to beat Ba to secure a semi final spot.
Ba defeated Tavua 4‑0 yesterday.
In Group A, Nadi has six points after a 2‑0 win over Rewa yesterday and will just need to draw against Suva today to secure a semi final spot.
Suva will need to beat Nadi to qualify for semis.
On the other hand, defending champion, Rewa will need to beat Dreketi with a good goal margin at 11am today and hope that Suva drop points against Nadi for them to qualify to the semis.
