Police hooker Keponi Paul has been named in the Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team to make his debut at the Singapore 7s and the World Sevens Series this weekend.
The side includes captain Jerry Tuwai, Isake Katonibau, Keponi Paul, Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Mesulame Kunavula, Josua Vakurinabili, Kalione Nasoko, Paula Dranisinukula, Waisea Nacuqu, Amenoni Nasilasila, Vatemo Ravouvou, Eroni Sau and Alasio Naduva.
Coach, Gareth Baber says that Ravouvou has been down with the flu and if he does not recover in time, Tabadamu’s Teri Tamani is on standby to replace him as the 13th player.
Baber highlighted that Singapore will be very tough as Fiji is now challenging for the lead in the series.
He adds this only make them more determined to prepare well physically and mentally for the remaining tournaments and also bearing in mind that the World Cup 7s is just around the corner.
Fiji will take on Japan at 5.36pm Saturday. They will then play Russia at 9.02pm Saturday before playing their final pool match against Spain at 12.28am Sunday.
The Cup quarter‑finals will begin at 4.30pm Sunday, the semi‑finals will begin at 8.50pm Sunday while the Cup Final is at 12 am Monday.
Barring any upsets, they will meet Australia or Scotland in the quarter‑final, USA or Argentina in the semifinal, South Africa or New Zealand in the final.
