Jamie Joseph is targeting a top‑five finish in his first season as Sunwolves coach despite the Japanese franchise's obvious struggles in their first two years of Super Rugby.

Joseph, who is also operating as Japan coach through to the 2019 World Cup, revealed his 24‑man squad for 2018 this week that included four former Highlanders: Craig Millar, Hayden Parker, Robbie Robinson and Fumi-aka Tanaka.

Former Chiefs No 8 and Japan captain Michael Leitch is also on board for next year as the Tokyo‑based team welcomes 12 new players.

The Sunwolves had the second‑worst record (two wins and 13 losses) of the 18 franchises in Super Rugby this year and finished bottom of the first African conference, but did finish with a bang by crushing the Blues 48‑21 in Tokyo in July.
