Italy's Ciro Immobile reacts during the World Cup qualifying play-off first leg soccer match between Sweden and Italy

Italy are in real danger of missing out on a first FIFA World Cup since 1958 after losing to Sweden 1-nil in the play‑off first leg.

The Swedes were the better team in the first half, and while the Azzurri slightly improved after the break, they were still disappointing.

Italy will need to turn the tie around in Tuesday’s second leg to reach the World Cup in Russia.

Meanwhile, in other International Soccer Friendlies, Germany and England drew nil-all, France beat Wales 2-0 and Brazil beat Japan 3-1.
