Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s coach Gareth Baber says he chose Kalione Nasoko to be captain because of discipline and also to alleviate the pressure that Jerry Tuwai had.

Speaking to Fijivillage from Dubai, Baber says Tuwai shouldered a lot of pressure after Osea Kolinisau left.

Baber says that with Tuwai as captain throughout the last few seasons, he was able to groom a few other players to replace him in this position.

He also adds that this included Paula Draunisinukula, Vatemo Ravouvou and Jasa Veremalua.

Baber says that he did not want to go for co-captaincy in the group as he only wants one leader in the team.

Fiji will face France in their first pool match at 7.06pm this Friday, Fiji will then play Scotland at 10.06pm this Friday.

Fiji’s last pool match will be against Kenya at 4.06am this Saturday.

The Cup quarterfinals start at 8pm this Saturday while the Cup semifinals kick off at 1.17am Sunday.

The Cup final will start at 4.29am Sunday.
