Hurricanes lock Mark Abbott scored a late try to secure a 28‑24 Super Rugby win over the Blues at Eden Park last night.
Poor handling and some questionable option‑taking again let the Blues down, the loss leaving the Aucklanders at the bottom of the New Zealand conference with just three wins from eight starts.
The Chiefs have survived a massive scare and come from 24‑0 down after 21 minutes to beat the Cheetahs 41‑27 this morning.
The Chiefs looked in all sorts of trouble after an early three‑try blitz had the men from Free State holding a hard‑to‑believe commanding position, before eventually being grounded, with the Chiefs in the end scoring six tries to three to even claim a bonus point.
That sees them jump one point ahead of the Hurricanes into second in the New Zealand Conference ‑ still two behind the unbeaten Crusaders.
In other matches, the Bulls beat the Jaguares 26-13, the Lions beat the Stormers 29-16, the Rebels edged the Brumbies 19-17 while the Reds beat the Kings 47-34.
