Former Fiji Warriors number eight and Wasps star Nathan Hughes has turned down John McKee’s offer to play for Fiji at the Rugby World Cup.
Hughes who has been shortlisted for the Forward‑Of‑The‑Season award by English Premiership Rugby last week is eligible to play for Fiji by birth and Samoa through his mum.
Hughes, who will qualify to play for England next year on residency, is already on Stuart Lancaster’s radar.
After his outstanding performances in the English Premiership this season, he will be vying for the England No.8 shirt with Billy Vunipola and Ben Morgan as soon as he is eligible.
Hughes signed for Wasps in 2013 after failing to get a Super 15 contract with the Auckland Blues.
He attended Saint Thomas High School in Lautoka and has also represented Fiji in hockey.
