Hughes who won the Global Flight Center/Pacific Energy Footballer of the Year Award last night says he used that as a motivation to become one of the best footballers in the country.
Hughes who was a consistent performer for the Suva soccer team last year was nominated alongside Nadi’s Vereti Dickson and Labasa’s Ratu Anare.
Lautoka soccer team striker, Mohammed Sazil was declared the Popular Footballer of the Year after he received most texts.
The Ba soccer team which won the 2016 Vodafone Premier League won the Team of the Year Award.
Rewa’s Marika Rodu won Coach of the Year Award.
Under Rodu’s guidance, Rewa created history by qualifying for the OFC Champions League for the first time.
Abdul Kadir of Lautoka won the Administrator of the Year Award.
Nadi’s Mataiasi Toma won the Junior Footballer of the Year Award.
Rewa’s Madhvan Goundar won the Fair Player of the Year Award.
Health Minister, Rosy Akbar was the Chief Guest at the awards ceremony at the Yue Lei Hotel in Suva.
Meanwhile, Suva will play Rakiraki at 3pm today in the Vodafone Premier League.
