The Highlanders have thrashed the Chiefs 36‑9 in their New Zealand derby in Invercargill to book their place in the Super Rugby playoffs for the second year in a row.
This win is the Highlanders tenth of the season, enabling them to leapfrog the Chiefs into second place in the overall standings.
The Chiefs slip to third.
The Highlanders led 11‑3 at halftime after wing Patrick Osborne scored the only try of the opening 40 minutes.
Fellow winger Waisake Naholo added a second try shortly after the restart as the Highlanders started to tighten their grip on the game.
In Australia, the Queensland Reds defeated the Western Force 32‑10 in Perth, to record just their fourth win of the season while the Waratahs have suffered a surprising 27-22 loss to the Lions.
The Stormers cemented their place on top of the South African Super Rugby conference by beating the Cheetahs 42‑12 with a bonus point.
In the other results, the Crusaders had a surprising 35-18 win over the Hurricanes, the Brumbies beat Bulls 22‑16 while the Sharks defeated the Rebels 25-21.
