All Blacks fullback Ben Smith could make his long awaited Highlanders comeback against the Crusaders, with the two sides to play out an all‑New Zealand Super Rugby quarterfinal in Christchurch on Friday night.
Having trained last week to face the Waratahs in Invercargill, Smith was left out of the Highlanders' final round robin game as a precaution ‑ the fullback's hamstring causing concern.
Smith hasn't played for the Highlanders since May 4th.
In the Super Rugby’s 24 year history, the Highlanders have never beaten the Crusaders in the Super Rugby quarterfinal.
The Crusaders will take on the Highlanders at 7.35pm Friday at Rugby League Park in Christchurch, the Jaguares will meet the Chiefs in Argentina at 10.05am Saturday, the Hurricanes will meet the Bulls at Wellington Regional Stadium at 7.35pm Saturday while the Brumbies take on the Sharks at 10.05pm Saturday in Canberra.
