Former Fiji Bati fullback and NRL star Jarryd Hayne has taken a massive step towards his dream of playing in the NFL after signing a contract with the San Francisco 49ers.
Hayne left the Eels last October with hopes of playing in the NFL and at a press conference in Sydney today, he announced he has signed with the 49ers ahead of the 2015 season, starting in September.
The Lions initially shaped as the front runners, but the 27 year old says he agreed to a rookie contract with the 49ers last Friday.
The deal is worth $US100,000 and guarantees him a spot at the club for 15 to 20 weeks.
Hayne said the 49ers had made a “serious offer” two weeks ago, and that he had told the team last Friday he was accepting the offer.
He said it is going to be a huge mountain to climb and is expecting a big moment.
Hayne will be playing as a running back.
