An aspiring rugby league club in New York has set its sights on Fiji Bati fullback Jarryd Hayne as its first marquee signing ahead of a proposed 2019 launch.
The New York City Rugby League consortium is following in the footsteps of the Toronto Wolfpack and has lodged a bid to play in the Rugby Football League's professional tier in England.
Like Toronto, which has signed former NRL players such as Fiji Bati Prop, Ashton Sims, Fuifui Moimoi and Dave Taylor, the New York bid wants to attract prominent NRL talent.
Meanwhile Fiji Bati Prop Ashton Sims believes the disappointing losses to the PNG Kumuls and Australia Kangaroos over the weekend was definitely a big learning curve as the Bati begin camp in Denarau.
Sims says that the Tri Nations gave them a good realization of where they are and what they need to work on ahead of the Rugby League World Cup.
The Fiji Bati will play their first game at 9.20pm on the 28th of this month against USA.
