Minister for Youth and Sports, Laisenia Tuitubou has assured members of parliament that the government will allocate more funds to assist the Vodafone Flying Fijians if they secure a quarter final spot in the Rugby World Cup next month.
Tuitubou said this is different from the $1.2 million that was allocated to prepare the team from the Pacific Nations Cup until their last pool game.
Tuitubou was replying to a question asked by MP Alivereti Nabulivou on what is the government’s plan if Fiji excelled to the quarter finals.
Tuitubou added that this is one of the best prepared Flying Fijians team that Fiji is sending to a Rugby World Cup.
Opposition MP Tupou Draunidalo then asked Tuitubou on what is the current status of the Vodafone led consortium sponsorship towards FRU.
Tuitubou said that he will have to get more information on this.
The Flying Fijians are currently being hosted by the British High Commission for a lunch.
The team will break camp after today.
All Suva based players will depart from the GPH at 2.30pm on Sunday for Novotel in Nadi.
The team will then depart Nadi at 9.30am next Monday for the United Kingdom.
Fiji will play a warm up match against Canada on the 6th of next month before taking on England at 7am in the World Cup opening match on the 19th of next month.
