Good news for various sporting organisation around the country as the government will provide $2 million to assist our national teams for their overseas tours.
This includes the Fiji Under 17 soccer team, team Fiji’s preparations for the Pacific Games, preparation for Commonwealth Youth Games, Pacific Rugby, Pacific Nations Cup, Junior Rugby World Cup, Under 20 Soccer World cup, Rugby World Cup and the World Netball Championship.
The government has also allocated $400,000 for the hosting of international tournaments in Fiji.
Various sporting bodies can also secure services of top international coaches as $2 million have been allocated to engage overseas coaches in providing international expertise for sports development.
$1.6 million have been provided for the construction of rural sports complex in Gau and Kadavu with work expected to start as early next year.
The Government has also allocated 3 million dollars for upgrade and maintenance of existing sports facilities including Lawaqa Park.
The government of china has confirmed its commitment to fund the Vunidawa Sports Complex.
To develop civic awareness amongst youths and promote sporting activities, the government has allocated $16.7 million to the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Meanwhile the National Sports Commission will receive an operating grant of $800,000.
