Players who were friends during the week at the All Blacks training camp will become enemies when the Crusaders and Hurricanes contest first place in the Super Rugby competition tonight.
Ten Crusaders and eight Hurricanes were among 33 players who attended an All Blacks training camp midweek to begin preparations for next month's three‑test series against France.
Most of those players found themselves rooming together, two to a room, and talk of tonight's match was put on hold for the sake of national team harmony.
The eight Hurricanes players in the All Blacks squad are Jordie Barrett, Beauden Barrett, Ngani Laumape, TJ Perenara, Ardie Savea, Jeffery Toomaga-Allen, Nehe Milner-Skudder and Vaea Fifita.
And some these of players found themselves sharing the same room with the 10 Crusaders in the All Blacks camp who are Codie Taylor, Owen Franks, Joe Moody, Tim Perry, Scott Barrett, Sam Whitelock, Richie Mo’unga, Ryan Crotty, Jordan Taufua and Jack Goodhue.
The Crusaders are on top of the Super Rugby standings with 46 points — 10 wins from 12 games — while the Hurricanes are a point behind with 10 wins from 11 games.
The Hurricanes will meet the Crusaders at 7.35 tonight.
