Troubled NRL star Kieran Foran was admitted to hospital last week after reportedly overdosing on prescription medication.
A report in Fairfax Media suggested that the Parramatta Eels skipper needed to be treated at St Vincent's Hospital after a reaction to the unknown substance.
25-year-old Foran is on indefinite leave to deal with personal issues including the breakdown of his relationship with his long‑time partner.
In a text message, he thanked the club and fans for their support, but says he needed 'time and privacy' to sort through 'personal issues'.
Foran, who arrived in Parramatta on a multi‑million dollar deal at the start of the year from Manly, has been missing from training all week and was not sighted at the captain's run.
His absence will also be felt by New Zealand, as the Kiwi international is likely to miss at least three games, including the clash against Australia in Newcastle tomorrow, while specialists monitor his condition.
His relationship with his partner is believed to have ended in March, just weeks after she gave birth to the couple's second child, Jordan.
The Eels will face the Rabbitohs at 9.50pm next Friday.
