As the Vodafone Flying Fijians continue their preparations for the match against Scotland this weekend, one of the areas they could capitalize on is their ability to make clean breaks.
Fiji had a total of 10 clean breaks against Italy’s 2, made 14 offloads which was mostly from Leone Nakarawa, beat 23 defenders and had 7 turnovers against Italy.
When compared to how Scotland approached their game against the Wallabies, their main weapon was their pressure defence.
This would definitely see the Flying Fijians shifting the ball out quickly to their strong runners out wide and avoid 50/50 passes.
Last Saturday, Nakarawa made two clean breaks, beat 4 defenders, made 4 offloads, 8 carries, covered 84 metres and won a turnover.
The Scottish only had 43% of possession against Australia and 37% of territory but their coach Gregor Townsend believes his players were fast on getting back on their feet to commit to another tackle.
The Scottish tackle counts against Australia was 137 compared to Australia’s 101.
Scotland's game plan worked well to frustrate the Wallabies as they also dominated at the breakdowns.
The Flying Fijians will host Scotland at 2.30pm this Saturday at the ANZ Stadium and you can catch the live commentary on our sister station Viti FM.
