Five zone records broken at Suva Zone 1 today

Five zone records have been broken at the Suva Zone 1 today.

Elesi Nasau of Ballantine Memorial School broke the Intermediate Girls Triple Jump record.

Nasau’s new record is 9.60 metres while the old record was 9.35 metres set by Litia Salabogi of Basden College back in 2010.

The second record was broken by Abisha Lal of MGM who jumped 4.82 metres to break the Sub Junior Boys Long Jump record.

Lal said this is his first year in high school and he has never taken part in athletics.

In another event, Maciu Rasekaseka of Namosi Secondry School broke the Intermediate Boys Javelin record with the throw of 50.14 metres.

The old record was 48.05 metres set back in 2011.

Rasekaseka did not feature for his school last year as his teacher wanted him to focus more on his studies.

In the relay, RSMS Junior Boys relay team broke the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 metres relay records with the time of 46.07 sec and 3 minutes and 48 seconds respectively.

Nasinu Secondary’s Intermediate Boys also broke the 4 x 400 metres final with the new time of 3 minutes 39 seconds.

Nasinu Secondary School’s sprinter Apisai Dokonibonu won the Suva Zone 1 Senior boys 100 metres final.

He clocked 11.00 seconds and will be one of the top contenders for the Blue Ribbon event in the Coca Cola Games next month.

Looking at the latest medal tally:

In the Boys Division - Nasinu Secondary School is leading with 3 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze, Namosi Secondary and RSMS are second with 1 gold and 2 silver.

In the Girls Division - BMS is leading with 2 gold and 3 silver, Cathedral and Dudley is in second place with 2 gold and 1 silver while Nasinu Secondary School is in third place with 1 gold and 2 bronze.
