Fiji’s National Rugby Championship team will be known as the Fijian Drua.
While making the announcement, FRU Chairman Francis Kean says being officially called the Fijian Drua team reflects the history of the Drua that links tradition and heritage with a modern style as the team embarks on a new journey to battle it out at the Australian NRC for the first time ever.
The 2017 NRC will run for 11 weeks with the Fijian Drua kicking off with their season opener on Saturday 2nd September against Brisbane City in Brisbane.
The national side will have a match against Tonga A at 7.30pm Friday at Ratu Cakobau Park.
The side will also include some of the Under 20 players who are preparing for the Junior World Trophy next month in Uruguay.
Some of the Super Rugby players who are currently in the Brisbane City squad include Kane Douglas, Nick Frisby, Quade Cooper, Samu Kerevi, Chris Kuridrani and Karmichael Hunt.
