Fijiana beats Samoa 36-0 in their opening match of the Oceania 7s

Fijiana scores underneath the sticks against Samoa

The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team thrashed Samoa 36-nil in their first pool match of the Oceania 7s this morning.

The Fijiana led 14-0l at halftime.

Fijiana captain Ana Maria Roqica says they have to step up after making some basic mistakes in their first game.

Meanwhile New Zealand Women’s 7s team forward Stacey Waaka says they want to win this tournament as they thrashed Tahiti 70-nil this morning.

She says they expect tough competition from the Fijiana and Australia.

The Fijiana will now play Tonga at 2:40pm and then take on women’s Olympic champions, Australia at 6 tonight.

The women’s final kicks off at 7.06pm tomorrow.

Looking at the other results in the women’s pool matches, PNG drew 12-all with Cook Islands while Australia thrashed Tonga 59‑0.

In the Men’s competition, Fiji's first game will be against New Caledonia at 4.40pm today while their second game is against American Samoa at 7.40pm.

The Cup quarters start at 11am tomorrow, the semis start at 3pm while the Cup final is at 6.46pm tomorrow.
