Fijian rugby union player Savenaca Kokoibulileka has died after collapsing on the pitch while playing for Leicestershire‑based club Oakham RFC.
He collapsed during the second half of yesterday's game against West Bridgford at the Rutland Showgrounds.
An Oakham statement says they are grateful to the ambulance service who were promptly in attendance and despite their best efforts he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
The statement added: "The thoughts and prayers of the club, its players and supporters are all with Savenaca's family at this very difficult time."
