Waisea Nacuqu was the hero for the Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team as he scored the winning try in golden points for the team as they beat New Zealand 17-12 in the final of the Oceania 7s.
Fiji led 12-7 at half time.
Josua Vakurinabili scored the first try of the match for the home side.
Andrew Knewstubb scored for New Zealand as they took a 7-5 lead.
Alasio Naduva once again showed his pace as he ran from inside their own half to score as Fiji regained the lead to 12-7.
The second half was filled with near chances for both teams but they failed to capitalize.
Dylan Collier scored for New Zealand and with the conversion missed , the match headed for golden points.
Coach Gareth Baber says the team showed great character to win.
New Zealand coach Clark Laidlaw says this has provided a good build up to the start of the HSBC Sevens Series.
Australia won the Women’s title after they overcame rivals New Zealand 14-10.
Hagiga Mosby and Page Mcgregor scored the tries for Australia while Shakira Baker and Leanna Ryan scored for New Zealand.
Half time Australia led 14-5.
Australia captain, Page McGregor says this wins means a lot for the young players.
Meanwhile, Samoa finished third in the men’s competition after they beat Australia 14-12.
The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team finished third at the Oceania 7s after beating PNG 33-5.
Fijiana led 12-0 at halftime.
