The Fiji National soccer team delivered a gallant performance against the Wellington Phoenix side to hold them to a 2-all draw in their friendly match at Govind Park last night.
The visitors were leading 2-0 at half time and the Fijian side bounced back in the second half.
Captain Roy Krishna scored for the Fiji in the 80th minute while Ilimotama Jese leveled the scores two minutes later.
Krishna was awarded the man of the match.
Meanwhile the Fiji Under 23 side which is preparing for the Pacific Games went down to the Wellington Phoenix Premier side 3‑1 yesterday.
The Fiji soccer team last won a gold medal in the Pacific Games 12 years ago when the games was held in Fiji.
Fiji is in group A with Tahiti, Vanuatu and the Federated States of Micronesia.
This year’s soccer competition in the Pacific Games is also an Olympic qualifier and will also feature the NZ under 23 side.
The Fiji Under 23 soccer team will play its first group match against Vanuatu at 4pm this Friday.
